A while back Lisa posted an interesting food item post entitled Any Guesses?. Cool concept, hope she doesn't mind if I borrow the idea for a post.
I was making chicken soup (hint) the other night and pulled this out. Any guesses as to what it is? I was initially horrified until I remembered what it was.

Parmesan cheese rind?
Ear wax?
Been rackin' my brain, & I can't think of anything beyond the aforementioned cheese rind or a hunk of rutabaga. But that fuzz on the end is scaring me...
Ok, give it up Dave. What IS it?
Ok, Andrew - you bastard - you got it within seconds of the post. Cheese rind. I've heard of using these in food long ago and never tried. It really added a nice flavor. But it looked disgusting when I took it out. Yuk.
I'll still bring you a few lupini beans on Saturday.
Dave
Can't help it, cheese rind has been on my mind a lot lately (don't ask). Was this parmesan cheese rind, because i threw some in a pot of minestrone expecting it to stay whole, and it gradually melted-what gives?
Yup, parmesan, Reggiano and all. But , being so expensive, we ate everything but the toughest bit of rind. So, there just wasn't much cheese left. Maybe that's why it didn't run. It was only in the soup an hour too.
